CybaTerm is the cyberpunk terminal for Mac from PWR Industries LLC. These guides match CybaTerm 1.0.0. About CybaTerm →
Open CybaTerm. A normal login zsh runs in the main pane, using your own dotfiles, which CybaTerm never edits. The widget drawer is on the right: drag the divider to resize it, or press ⌘D to show or hide it. Use Theme to pick one of 20 themes and Shell › Prompt Style to pick a prompt.
The Now Playing equalizer follows your Mac’s real audio on macOS 14.2 or later. On 14.0 and 14.1 it shows a demo animation.
Theme › Theme Editor… gives you color wells for every field and a live preview. Built-in themes are read-only: saving one keeps your edits as an override, and Restore Default undoes them. New Theme from Current makes an editable copy. Import or export .cybatheme files from the Theme menu.
Your themes are in ~/Library/Application Support/CybaTerm/Themes. Save a file there in any editor and it reloads live. A file with errors is never applied, and the menu shows what’s wrong.
Pick a prompt from Shell › Prompt Style, or use the cyba command inside CybaTerm’s local shell:
cyba prompt list | cyba prompt <builtin|a…k|mine|auto> # switch prompt style live
cyba theme list | cyba theme <id> # switch theme
cyba widget <slot 1-5> <widget> # e.g. cyba widget 2 radar
cyba hack cyba drawer cyba clear cyba snap [file.png] cyba help
cyba is ignored in remote shells you reach over SSH, because they have no session token.
| Id | Style | What it looks like |
|---|---|---|
| builtin | Built-in (Neon Basic) | Clean two-line box prompt using the theme’s prompt character |
| a | Neural Link | Two-line HUD with exit status and run time on the right, plus an SSH tag |
| b | Glitch | Katakana tag, color-split user name, hex error code on failure |
| c | Corp Terminal | [SYS:ONLINE] [NODE:] [SEC:] [PATH:] >> megacorp console |
| d | Minimal Neon | Underlined path and a neon rule, with a bolt on SSH |
| e | Netrunner Deck | [DECK:user]─[NODE:host]─[ICE:CLEAR], which shows ICE BREACH after an error, plus a trace of the last command |
| f | Router CLI | Cisco/Juniper style host(dir)>, with # when root |
| g | Mainframe 3270 | All-caps JOB/NODE/USER/DSN, ABEND RC on error, READY |
| h | Signal Bars | ▂▄▆█ bars for how fast your last command ran (or live Pulse latency), plus session uptime |
| i | Kanji Rain | One line with a new katakana word on every command and glowing ⟩⟩ |
| j | Hazard Mode | Striped /!\ HAZARD warning band. Can switch on automatically for root or production hosts |
| k | Holo Card | Boxed HOST/USER/PATH/GIT card that collapses to one line after you press Enter |
| mine | Keep my prompt | Uses your own prompt (Powerlevel10k, Starship, …) |
| auto | Auto | Your own prompt if you have one, otherwise the theme’s default style |
Every style takes its colors from the active theme and updates live when you switch themes. Each built-in theme has a default style; Arasaka, for example, uses Corp Terminal.
Click a slot’s name or Switch (⌘E, or ⌥⌘1–⌥⌘5) to choose a widget, ⚙ for its settings (⌥⌘,) and the pin to keep it fixed. Add Pane adds a slot, up to 5. Shuffle rotates unpinned slots every 30 seconds, and Hack Mode (⌃⌘H) turns everything into a hacker feed and back.
tail -F of a remote log, with errors highlightedRun ssh user@host in the terminal as usual. Live SSH Stats and Log Tail follow the host you’re connected to, or a host you pin from ~/.ssh/config.
With Shell › Share My SSH Login with Widgets on (the default for new shells), widgets reuse your logged-in connection, so password and 2FA hosts work, and nothing is typed into your session. With it off, widgets need key-based login.
Add the Grok Bot widget, click ⚙ and paste your xAI API key, which is stored only in your Mac’s Keychain. Questions go to xAI only when you send them.
Screen: OFF is the default. Turn it ON to include what’s on your terminal screen with each question. While it’s on you’ll see a red SCREEN SHARED badge and a notice on every send.
Shell › Session Logging (⇧⌘L) records the main pane to plain-text files, with ANSI codes stripped, in ~/Documents/CybaTerm/Logs or a folder you choose. Only you can read the files, and they never leave your Mac.
