Logging & the chat log
Session log
- Turn it on with Log in the connection bar, or Session › Start Logging (⌘⇧L).
- The file is
Character_MUD_yyyy-MM-dd_HHmmss.txt, saved in your log folder. - The first time, Veilrunner asks you to choose a folder. You can change it later with Session › Choose Log Folder… or the arrow next to Log. Because Veilrunner runs in the App Sandbox, it can only write where you've allowed it, and it remembers your choice securely.
- Your commands start with
>in the log. - The footer shows
Logging: <file>orLogging Stopped. - Passwords are never written. Disconnecting or quitting closes the file.
Chat patterns
Chat patterns tell Veilrunner which lines are chat. They're saved with the character.
#chatconfig list chat patterns
#chatconfig add {tell} {tells you}
#chatconfig add {gossip} {gossip}
#chatconfig add {ooc} {ooc}
#chatconfig add {shout} {*shouts*} * is any text, ? is one character
#chatconfig remove {gossip}
#chatconfig clear remove every pattern
#chatconfig darke DarkeMUD tells, replies and channels
Matching ignores case. A pattern must look like a channel line: it matches at the start of a line, or right after a name.
Chat panel
View › Show Actions (⌘⇧J) opens a live panel with automation lines and chat tabs: All, plus one tab per pattern name. #chat shows or hides the chat window.
- Lines you receive are sky blue. Lines you send are lilac.
- Typing in the chat box sends that text to the MUD.
Chat log
The ChatLog button, next to Log, writes only chat lines to ChatLog_<MUD>_…_chatlog.txt. Each line is tagged with its pattern name, for example [Gossip] ….
- It has its own folder.
- It doesn't start by itself when you connect.
Reviewing the chat log
#chatlogreview loads the open chat log, or the newest one, into the session window so you can scroll through it. #chatlogreview {path} loads a specific file. This doesn't turn ChatLog on and doesn't send anything to the MUD.
Automatic setup backups
When you disconnect or quit, Veilrunner writes a .vrbak copy of the character's setup into a backup folder inside your log folder. The copy never includes a password.
