Export & import settings
New in Veilrunner 1.0.4. Move your setup between Macs. Export it to one .veilrunner file, move it to your other Mac, and import it there. Imports merge by default, and you see exactly what will change first. Nothing is deleted unless you choose Replace for a character, and a backup is always saved first.
Export settings
Choose File › Export Settings… and pick where to save. Veilrunner saves one .veilrunner file with:
- your characters
- your aliases and triggers
- your saved MUDs
- your tabs
- your settings
To move it, AirDrop the file to your own Mac, or use a USB drive or a private cloud folder you control.
Saved passwords are never included; they stay in your Mac’s Keychain. Veilrunner also blanks any saved password it finds in your aliases or triggers.
Treat the file as private, check any secrets you typed into scripts before sharing, and only import files you made or trust.
Import settings
On the other Mac, choose File › Import Settings… and pick the .veilrunner file. Then:
- Preview. Veilrunner shows exactly what will be added and what will be updated, before anything changes.
- Automatic backup. Your current setup is backed up automatically before the import.
- Merge by default. The settings in the file are merged into what you already have. Nothing is deleted unless you choose Replace for a character, and a backup is always saved first.
Only import files you made or trust: imported triggers are turned on and can send commands, and a file’s connection settings, including encryption, replace yours for matching MUDs. Review the preview before you import.
Replace this character (optional)
The import sheet has a Replace this character toggle for each character in the file. It is off by default. Turn it on only when you want that character on this Mac to match the file exactly: Veilrunner then removes that character’s scripts that the file doesn’t have. Other characters are still merged. The automatic backup is still saved first, so you can go back.
Because saved passwords are never included, use Edit on each imported character to add its password on the new Mac.
